More Than a Game

Ari Gibbs founded BIG Spades League LLC with a simple belief: Spades has always been about more than cards. It's a tradition that brings people together, builds relationships, and preserves a piece of Black culture passed down from one generation to the next.

A community builder and entrepreneur, Ari founded BIG Spades League after recognizing two growing needs: adults were finding it harder than ever to make meaningful friendships, and many people wanted to learn Spades but felt intimidated or embarrassed because they hadn't grown up playing. She envisioned a welcoming, judgment-free community where everyone—from complete beginners to seasoned players—could learn, compete, and connect. That vision continues to shape every lesson, game night, tournament, and partnership the league hosts.

Today, BIG Spades League brings people together through virtual lessons, community game nights, tournaments, and private events across New York City. Every experience is designed to strengthen community, celebrate culture, and ensure everyone has a seat at the table.

Because when people gather around a Spades table, they're doing more than playing a game—they're building friendships, creating memories, and carrying forward a cultural tradition that deserves to be celebrated.

Through our partnership with Well Read Sistas Inc., we're proud to extend that impact beyond the table by supporting the Prenzivella K. Saunders Scholarship Fund, helping invest in the educational success of Black women.
